Dominika Petrtýlová
Dominika Petrtýlová (*1993) is a glass artist who graduated from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM), where she studied in the Glass Studio under the guidance of Rony Plesl. She considers herself a painter who uses glass vases instead of canvases. By doing so, she pushes them beyond the realm of mere decorative objects, approaching them as a means of expression and elevating them to the status of art objects.
Her work reflects inspiration drawn from pop culture, art history, and architecture. She combines realistic painting with symbolic or ironic elements and is not afraid of kitsch, humor, or references to street art. Petrtýlová explores the relationship between high and low art, as well as between the fragility and resilience of glass. She personally works on each piece in order to imprint a part of herself into every object. Her work oscillates between love and disappointment, intimacy and distance, beauty and absurdity.
