Party Vases are a paraphrase of Rococo porcelain vases, which are typically characterized by elaborate ornamentation and amorous or erotic motifs. However, the delicate eroticism of the 18th century has transformed in the 21st century into an intoxication with psychedelic substances and darkness.
Human behavior serves as a major source of inspiration for Dominika Petrtýlová. Each vase conceals a nighttime story from a specific bar, where the artist captures moments of nightlife through photographs that she subsequently depicts on the vases themselves. The vase Zlatý strom (Golden Tree) is inspired by an evening spent in the bar of the same name, where the artist hung out with a friend.

About author

Dominika Petrtýlová (*1993) is a glass artist who graduated from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM), where she studied in the Glass Studio under the guidance of Rony Plesl. She considers herself a painter who uses glass vases instead of canvases. She pushes them beyond the boundaries of mere decorative objects, approaching them as a means of expression and elevating them to art objects. In her work, she combines realistic painting with symbolic or ironic elements and is not afraid of kitsch, humor, or references to street art.
