The Humanoids series, created between 2016 and 2018, presents torsos exploring the development of form—organic entities emerging from a kind of leg structure. The sculptures combine gentle amorphousness with a suggested firm internal skeleton and draw on the studies of movement by photographer Eadweard Muybridge, who in the 19th century documented the phases of motion in running horses and walking humans.
Each piece engages with the dynamics and rhythm of movement, creating the spatial presence of a humanoid being. The works also reference Futurist sculpture and its exploration of motion, energy, and growth.
About author
Pavlína Kvita (*1988) is one of the talented younger sculptors who bring a fresh perspective to contemporary art. Her sculptures work with the traditional scheme of free-standing plastic art, and the resulting material is mainly glass concrete or artificial stone. In her latest works, we encounter a specific anthropomorphic organicity that stands out for its economical form and plasticity. Her works have been presented at a number of exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad.
