Michal Cimala’s series of small bronze sculptures depicts stylized human figures—prototypes of humanity, sometimes inspired by specific individuals or observed types. Each piece is unique, a masterfully crafted original. The artist explores the shape and expression of the human form.
The sculptures are designed to stand independently, yet all retain the unified character of the series. A striking feature of some heads is that they have been deconstructed and reassembled into new sculptural forms, drawing on the architectural techniques of 1990s deconstructivism. Another characteristic is the covering of faces, reflecting the effort to simplify the shape into a more compact form. Some sculptures are further complemented by fruit wrappers, transformed into bronze, which function as head coverings.
Each work represents a dialogue between experimental approaches and traditional materials, allowing the artist to discover new possibilities of form and structure.
The sculptures were first presented in New York at a joint exhibition and later shown at Art Miami Basel. They have been well received in the USA and are part of several important collections, including in the USA, Mallorca, and in Czechia—for example, the Collet Collection.
