Vlastimil Šenkýř

Vlastimil Šenkýř (*1990) is a Czech glass artist and designer whose distinctive work bridges the gap between fine and applied art. He focuses primarily on glass and ceramics, exploring the possibilities of both mediums through a wide range of experiments and trial processes. He graduated from the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Art and Design in Pilsen (majoring in Metal and Jewelry, and Ceramics) and from UMPRUM in Prague, where he studied in the Glass Studio under the guidance of Rony Plesl. The central theme of his work is the continuous pushing of material boundaries through visual illusion, layering, and the search for a dialogue between natural and synthetic structures.

At the core of Šenkýř’s signature style is uncompromising material experimentation paired with high aesthetic and craftsmanship quality. In his objects, he combines traditional glassmaking techniques with modern technologies. His work is characterized by the use of symmetry, subtle pastel color palettes, and sophisticated details such as gradients in colored glass, metal oxides, or mica. His pieces often explore themes of impermanence and the tension between the artificial and natural worlds, while reducing hard-to-degrade materials to a minimum and emphasizing the principle of upcycling.

Šenkýř’s work has garnered significant attention on both the Czech and international scenes. Through his versatile scope and innovative approach to materials, Vlastimil Šenkýř stands out as a prominent representative of the emerging generation of Czech glass and design.
