Where the Branches Whisper

Martin Krajc (1984) is one of the most distinctive expressionist painters of the younger generation of contemporary Czech artists. He graduated from Michael Rittstein’s painting studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he also studied in the studio of Vladimír Skrepl and Jiří Kovanda. His work has been shaped by his time in Madrid, the Spanish painting tradition, and his experience of street art. His practice is characterised by a playful, relaxed, and emotionally dynamic painterly language combining drawing, gesture, and vivid colour. His paintings bring together figurative motifs, architecture, still life, and animals, often incorporating interiors of modernist buildings and iconic design. He draws inspiration from the history of painting, cinema, fashion photography, and contemporary visual culture.
