Rony Plesl

Rony Plesl (*1965) is an internationally renowned glass artist and designer. His work is characterized by a fascination with fine art, precise craftsmanship, and an effort to push boundaries – both his own and those of the material and technology itself. He studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in the Glass and Jewelry studio, where he later headed the Glass Studio and was also appointed professor of design and architecture. Plesl’s work ranges from glass design to monumental artistic sculpture. His work is deeply influenced by art history and inspired by the old masters. A distinctive feature of his contemporary work is the Vitrum Vivum technique, i.e., casting monumental glass sculptures in monolithic form. He also often works with uranium glass, a material that phosphoresces under UV light.

He regularly exhibits in the Czech Republic and abroad, is represented in domestic and international art collections, and in 2025 represented the Czech Republic at Expo in Osaka.
