These four original graphics by Josef Bolf stem from a series that the artist originally intended to be much more extensive. They are based on drawings from a sketchbook that held particular importance for him during a specific period of his work. While the entire notebook was never exhibited as a whole, slides from it were presented at the Melancholy of Outer Limits exhibition at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague.

The graphics were created by transferring the original marker-pen drawings into screenprints. The artist was keen to preserve the raster pattern, aiming for it to remain a subtly disquieting element within the image. He was intrigued to see how these compositions would function on a larger scale and within a different medium.

The titles of the graphics correspond to the order of the original drawings in the sketchbook.

The artworks combine figural motifs with abstract elements, capturing a period when the artist was attempting to break away from the color palette typical of his work. Today, he views them as one of the pathways that led to the motifs and techniques he continues to develop.
