The “Figurative Comeback” collection revisits the idea of figurative porcelain sculpture as a natural part of our homes and includes a written manifesto. The collection reflects two distinct contemporary trends through two emotional themes. The porcelain figurine “Melancholy” captures the feelings associated with today’s hectic lifestyle, while the “Yoga” figurine embodies harmony and care for both body and soul.
The manifesto is based on the belief that figurative sculpture has a place in contemporary interiors. Unlike mass-produced decorations, it offers a distinctive expression and the ability to connect with the viewer. Thanks to its humanity and relatability, it naturally becomes part of everyday life.
The sculptures are thus not merely decorative elements, but also a means of shaping the character of a home.

Melancholie, Monika Martykánová

About author

Monika Martykánová (*1994) is a graduate of the Ceramics and Porcelain Studio at UMPRUM in Prague. In her work, she has long focused on porcelain sculpture and the revitalization of small-scale figurative porcelain sculpture. She combines traditional techniques and processes with contemporary themes and visual elements. Her figurines relate to everyday moments of daily life and serve as a playful allusion to historicizing figurative sculptures.
All sculptures are produced in limited editions only.
